Ancient history

One of these days I will get around to posting what curriculum we are using in answer to some of your questions. In the mean time, here are some photos of some of our history activities. We are studying ancient history (from nomads and first farmers to the last Roman emperor).

Building a mini nomad hut from sticks, mud, and leaves. Lily realized that this was harder than it sounded and guessed to make a real one for people to fit in would have been difficult!

We learned about hieroglyphs and cuneiform. Here she carved her name in cuneiform.

Eli carved his name in "normal writing."

Perhaps the favorite was making a mummy. They worked so hard to prepare her body and wrap her up....just to have a neighborhood dog come snatch her off the table where she was drying and eat off some of their work. Thankfully L and E agreed that they had already had fun doing the best, messy part. :)

Eli told Kaylee that we had crucified the doll and then mummified her. For the record - we did not have a crucifixion of the doll. Gotta love the way a 4 year old weaves Biblical truth into their own lives in a not so appropriate fashion.
